Doctoral Student Paper Competition

Awards will be given to outstanding doctoral students for demonstrating high quality research output, based on the decision of the Faculty Review Committee.

The highlight of the 8th Biennial Supply Chain Management Conference is the dedicated track for the doctoral student paper competition. Four to six finalists will be selected and invited to present their papers in a special session at the conference. The registration fees for each finalist will be waived. 

The eligibility and submission guidelines for the competition are provided below.

Submission Guidelines for Regular Conference Track

  • The authors are requested to submit their extended abstracts (not exceeding 1,500 words) electronically in MS Word or PDF format with single line spacing, including the name, affiliation, mailing address, email address, and contact number of the author by clicking on the link at the end of the page. In the case of multiple authors, the letter should indicate the author to whom correspondence should be addressed.

  • Extended abstracts can include case study discussions, research in progress, and full research projects. 

  • Extended abstracts must include a clear indication of the purpose of the research, methodology, major results, implications, and key references.

  • Submitted abstracts will undergo peer review to check their suitability for the conference.

  • One of the authors of each accepted paper must register for the conference and agree to present the paper at the conference.

Doctoral Student Paper Competition

Eligibility conditions for the competition

  • The applicant must be a doctoral student on or after April 1, 2023, and the research must have been conducted while the applicant was a doctoral student (The students who have defended their PhD dissertation on or before 31st March 2023 are not eligible for competition). 

  • Only one paper can be submitted by an applicant.

  • The submitted paper must present the original research conducted primarily by the applicant while being a PhD student. Collaborations with other individuals (such as the applicant’s faculty advisor or other students) are permitted, but the applicant's research advisor must certify that the applicant's contribution to the papers is at least 50%.

  • The topic of the paper must fall within the scope of operations and supply chain management.

  • The submitted paper can be a working paper under review for journal publication, accepted for journal publication, or already published in a journal in the last year.

Submission Guidelines for the competition 

  • A cover letter from the advisor, including a statement that the applicant has met the eligibility conditions.

  • The paper is in pdf format with at most 32 pages (including all references and appendices) in standard format (1" margins, double-spaced, 11-point font). The author's name should not appear on the paper. Paper exceeding the page limit will be returned without review.

  • Please prepare a separate title page with details about the authors of the paper, including their name, affiliation, mailing address, email address, and contact number.

  • The applicant should also submit extended abstract of the paper via regular conference track submission mode (i.e., before 1st September 2023) 

  • The applicant must register for the conference and agree to present the paper at the conference.

  • The authors are requested to submit their papers and eligibility documnets at: scmc.conf.2023@iimb.ac.in

Limited accommodation is available at the Management Development Centre at IIM Bangalore. These rooms will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The tariff applicable for these rooms would be the following, including all three meals:

Rs 5000 plus GST per room on a single-sharing basis

Rs 3750 plus GST per person on a dual-sharing basis

Kindly note that the stay would be complimentary at MDC for PhD students whose papers get shortlisted for the Doctoral Student Paper Competition.
