Talk features studies conducted as part of three research papers by the author

28 March, 2024, Bengaluru: The Centre for Capital Markets and Risk Management (CCMRM) at IIM Bangalore hosted a talk on 25th March 2024 on ‘Fintech Insights: Exploring Cultural Biases, Financial Inclusion and Digital Payments’, led by Prof. Pulak Ghosh, faculty of the Decision Sciences area of IIM Bangalore.

The talk featured studies conducted as part of three research papers by the author, namely, ‘How Costly Are Cultural Biases? Evidence from FinTech’; ‘Digital Payments and Consumption: Evidence from the 2016 Demonetization in India’, and ‘Financial Inclusion and Alternate Credit Scoring: Role of Big Data and Machine Learning in Fintech’.
The first paper focuses on the influence of cultural biases on choices made under risk/uncertainty. It compares decisions made by peer-to-peer loan-lenders vs. lending made as per robo-advise, highlighting the unbiased approach and low-risk outcomes in the robo-assisted group. The paper on digital payments and consumption based on the 2016 demonetization in India investigates the correlation between consumer spending patterns and adoption of digital payment methods. The third paper analyzes the data from an Indian Fintech lender to study the role of Big Data and Machine Learning in financial inclusion and alternate credit scoring.
