Editorial :

It is my pleasure to bring you the monsoon issue of IMR and acquaint you with its contents.

Since Prahalad and Hart proposed the Base of the Pyramid (BOP) models, corporations worldwide have found a viable market opportunity in serving the world’s four billion poor. However, the approaches proposed to exploit this opportunity are open to debate. This time’s Round Table feature, Rethinking the BOP: New Models for the New Millennium, seeks to examine how BOP models can be taken to the next level of ecological and social sustainability. Meeting the genuine needs of the BOP would involve a change in focus from reworking cost structures and increasing product ownership to increasing asset control and benefit ownership.

Continuing with our series of interviews with high growth entrepreneurs, this issue has Prof K Kumar in conversation with Manoj Upadhyay, Founder and Managing Director of ACME Telepower, a company that has made its reputation in a short time as an innovative solution provider to the telecom infrastructure, energy, agriculture and environment sectors.

We also have papers examining the effectiveness of open source software development projects, the performance of Indian equity mutual funds, and two papers in marketing – one using a grounded theory approach to cross selling and the other which studies marketing mix encounters across different entrepreneurial profiles.

Readers, do make note of the details of the IMR Conference 2008 on ‘Global Supply Chain Management: Role of Emerging Economies’, and the annual IMR Student Essay Competition.

I look forward to your feedback on this issue and any other suggestions that you might have to enrich the contents.
