13 August, 2024, Bengaluru: The Decision Sciences area at IIM Bangalore will host a research seminar on, ‘Data Driven Optimization in Business Analytics and Energy Markets’ on 23 August, 2024 from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm at IIMB. The session will be led by Prof. Aswin Kannan, Faculty member and Group Leader at Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany.

Abstract: This upcoming session will explore advanced topics in business analytics and energy markets, focusing on multi-objective optimization problems and unit-commitment. The discussion will delve into key areas such as machine learning, specifically hyperparameter optimization problems and objectives, with a focus on balancing accuracy, bias, and computational time. The session will also cover cutting-edge modeling and algorithms for game-theoretic energy markets and policy design, drawing from the speaker's extensive body of research. Additionally, the talk will highlight data-driven portfolio optimization challenges in retail and language processing, offering insights from both current and past research endeavors. 

About the speaker: Prof. Aswin Kannan is currently a Faculty member and Group Leader at Humboldt University, Berlin in Germany. He holds a Doctorate from Penn State, US (2014, Advisor: Dr. Uday Shanbhag), a Masters from Univ. of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, US (both in Industrial Engineering), and a Bachelors from College of Engineering Guindy (India). Prior to joining Humboldt, he has worked for IBM Research (2015-2021), Oracle Analytics, and Argonne National Labs (in the US and India).
