Centre for Public Policy and Oxford Saïd Business School to host digital governance symposium
The session will be held on 2 December 2024, at IIMB
18 November 2024, Bengaluru: Centre for Public Policy—a Centre of Excellence at IIM Bangalore, and Saïd Business School–University of Oxford, will together host the ‘Digital governance symposium on transforming India through leadership and innovation on 2 December 2024, in Classroom N-001 at IIMB.
Topics discussed in the session include:
1. Digital Public Infrastructure: Pioneering Financial Inclusion and Development
The first session will focus on India's groundbreaking Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and the blueprint it has created for global financial inclusion. It will feature research conducted by IIM Bangalore on how DPI has transformed digital payments and information access in India and why it has sparked significant international interest as a model for financial inclusion.
Prof. Pulak Ghosh, Decision Sciences area, will be the presenter for the session. The panel moderated by Prof. M S Sriram, Chairperson, Public Policy, is to feature-- Dr. Ashok Dalwai, Chairman, PM Task Force on DFI; Mr. Dilip Asbe, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI); Prof. V. Sridhar, International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore; and Dr. Shashwat Alok, Finance area, Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad.
2. PRAGATI: A Model for Proactive Governance
The second session will feature a case study by Saïd Business School–University of Oxford, on the information and communications technology-based, multi-modal platform for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation (PRAGATI). Launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister in 2015, PRAGATI has revolutionized the implementation of the large-scale infrastructure projects in India and triggered other transformational developmental impacts in a federal context. The case study, supported by the Gates Foundation, analyzes PRAGATI's impact on accelerating infrastructure development and the resultant spinoffs across the nation.
The session will be presented by Prof. Soumitra Datta, Said Business School–University of Oxford. The panel moderated by IIMB Director Prof. Rishikesha Krishan is to feature— Mr. S.N. Subrahmanyan, Chairman & Managing Director, Larsen & Toubro Ltd; Mr. Adil Zainulbhai, Chairman, Capacity Building Commission; Mr. Indermit Gill, Chief Economist & Senior Vice President for Development Economics, World Bank Group.
The concluding remarks for the session will be delivered by Mr. Hari Menon, Director, India Country Office, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
