The session to cover co-authors R Gopalakrishnan and Hrishi Bhattacharyya contributions to large-scale business transformation initiatives on 12 June 2024

10 June, 2024, Bengaluru: IIM Bangalore will host a fireside chat with authors R Gopalakrishnan, Former Executive Director, Tata Sons and Hrishi Bhattacharyya, Former Senior VP, Unilever following the launch of their book, ‘, ‘Embrace the Future – The Soft Science of Business Transformation’. The session will be moderated by IIMB Faculty R Srinivasan, Professor of Strategy, and IIMB alumna Sriiroopa Rao.

About the book: The ability to adapt and transform has become a hallmark of successful businesses and visionary leaders. ‘Embrace the Future’ explores the challenges and triumphs of corporate transformation, drawing from the authors’ first-hand experiences leading transformational initiatives around the globe.
Authors Gopalakrishnan and Bhattacharyya post the question – What happens when leaders fail to embrace change? Tackling the subject, the book delves into the rise and fall of business dynasties. The authors also recount their early careers, together at Hindustan Lever, noting sales reorganization efforts, company turmoil and leadership 

The book details the soft and strategic aspects of transformation, introducing the concept ‘adaptation quotient for future leaders’. It offers an extensive account of how to forecast and interpret data and signals in decision-making, while having the courage to challenge long-held industry assumptions.

About the authors: R Gopalakrishnan is a celebrated Indian businessman and author. Until his retirement, he was an executive director of Tata Sons, serving on the boards of Tata Power, Tala Technologies, and Tata Tea. Before joining the Tata Group, he was Vice Chairman of Hindustan Lever Limited (now Hindustan Unilever).

He earned his Bachelors in Physics from St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta; an Electronics degree from IIT Kharagpur; and attended the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School. 

Hrishikesh Bhattacharyya is a management consultant, teacher and author. In a career spanning fifty years, he was a Senior Vice President in Unilever, based at their company headquarters in Europe, leading the ‘Global Health and Wellness’ category. He has been a visiting faculty of Strategy at the University of Michigan Business School and has taught International Business at the London Business at the London Business School.
He is an alumnus of the IIM Ahmedabad and attended the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School. He has lived and worked in Asia, Latin America, Europe, and the United States.
