Mizuho India Japan Study Centre at IIMB gears up to celebrate 7th foundation day

The theme of this year is, ‘Connect, Explore, and Develop’

20 September, 2024, Bengaluru: Mizuho India Japan Study Centre (MIJSC), a Centre of Excellence at IIM Bangalore, will celebrate its Foundation Day on 20 September 2024 from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm, marking the seventh year of its operations. The theme of this year is ‘Connect, Explore, and Develop’.

Celebrating the strong and growing ties between India and Japan, the event will witness Dr. S. Vidyashankar, Vice Chancellor, Visvesvaraya Technological University, delivering the keynote address on ‘Reimagining Engineering Education in India’. Mr. Koji Sato, Director General, The Japan Foundation, and Guest of Honor for the event, will address the gathering on, ‘Japanese Studies and International Relations’.

Prof. Jaideep Sarkar, Chairperson, MIJSC will deliver the welcome address for the session. The event will also include addresses by IIMB Director Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan and other faculty of IIMB; a video presentation on ‘Milestones @ MIJSC’, and a cultural program focusing on Japanese traditions. Saideep Rathnam, Chief Operating Officer, Mizuho India Japan Study Centre, will deliver the vote of thanks.

With compelling business and national interests propelling the fast-evolving India-Japan business environment, IIMB—with its academic and research competencies—conceived the idea of establishing the Mizuho India Japan Study Centre to facilitate collaborative initiatives among academia, industry and government agencies of both countries to work on areas of mutual interest. MIJSC is a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, especially among academic institutes, that focuses on creating, sharing and disseminating knowledge in emerging areas of Indo-Japanese business. It also aims to encourage research collaboration between Indian and Japanese scholars by funding various research programs.

The foundation day event aims bring together all key stakeholders to share the milestones that the centre has achieved over the past year. Some of the highlights include- the release of several publications, and knowledge creation on subjects such as Ikigai, Artificial Intelligence, and the Digital Revolution. The center has also actively promoted research collaborations between Indian and Japanese scholars through funded programs. Initiatives such as ‘Lean Manufacturing Practices’ aim to develop leaders in India’s manufacturing sector. Additionally, a focused Japanese Language Course aimed at building conversational competency has also been introduced. An executive program focusing on Japan has been initiated, with more programs in the pipeline.
