‘Atypical: Five Strategy Rules for a New World’: Book launch at IIM Bangalore on 28th February

Authored by Prof. Prateek Raj of University College London and based on the management subject area of Strategy, the book draws on theoretical framework to address business requirements for a new world

14 February, 2025, Bengaluru: IIM Bangalore welcomes everyone to the launch of a book titled, ‘Atypical: Five Strategy Rules for a New World’, authored by Prof. Prateek Raj, University College London (UCL) Global Business School for Health, at N-103 on 28th February 2025, between 3 pm and 4 pm.

Apart from the author Prof. Prateek Raj, the key speakers of the event include Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director, IIM Bangalore and Prof. Trilochan Sastry of the Decision Sciences area, IIMB, with Prof. Manaswini Bhalla, Chairperson, Post Graduate Programme in Management and PGP in Business Analytics, and faculty of the Economics area of IIMB, moderating the discussion.

About the Book: Based on the management subject area of Strategy, the book ‘Atypical: Five Strategy Rules for a New World’ (Publisher: Westland Business) draws on a solid theoretical framework to address the business requirements for a new world, aimed at managers and leaders across businesses and companies who can make a significant difference.

The book is a reflection on the current mode of capitalism and a call to action to rethink everything – leadership, strategy, innovation and even progress itself. The author Prof. Prateek Raj challenges the status quo by showing how the world’s most innovative organizations learn from voices at the fringes – which may belong to the marginalized communities, unexpected collaborators or frontline workers. Through vivid examples, actionable frameworks and a call to embrace empathy and grounded leadership where success is measured through innovation and not profit alone, Atypical provides a forward-looking blueprint for leaders who dare to see – and nurture – a more inclusive, sustainable and resilient future.

About the Author: Dr. Prateek Raj is an Associate Professor at the University College London (UCL) Global Business School for Health and an Affiliate Fellow at the Stigler Center, the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He earned a bachelor’s degree from IIT Delhi and a master’s and PhD in Management from UCL. During his doctoral studies, he was a visiting researcher at Kellogg School of Management and Chicago Booth, and also taught at the London School of Economics.

Following his PhD, he joined Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, where he led the Inclusive Markets Lab, advancing research, teaching and advocacy on business models and economic policies that promote inclusive growth. Prof. Prateek Raj’s interdisciplinary, impact-driven work has garnered global recognition through prestigious awards and research grants. The MBA course he designed at IIM Bangalore, Strategic Stewardship, serves as the foundation for this book.
