Challenge for students, transport service practitioners, academics and researchers aims to address financial, technical and operational challenges in the adoption of electric trucks 

14 August, 2024, Bengaluru: The Supply Chain Management Centre (SCMC), a Centre of Excellence at IIM Bangalore, along with ‘OpMaC’, the student-run Operations Management Club of the institute, in partnership with NITI Aayog, is hosting the ‘NITI Gearshift Challenge’, a hackathon to arrive at innovative business models for the adoption of Zero-Emission Trucking (ZETs) in India. The final round of the event will be held on 27 August 2024.

The hackathon, which is part of the e-FAST India initiative, aims to address the nation's pressing economic and environmental challenges. The other partners for the event are CALSTART/Drive to Zero, WRI India and Smart Freight Centre India (SFC). The challenge is aimed at students, transport service practitioners, academics and researchers with the objective of developing innovative business models which address financial, technical and operational challenges in the adoption of electric trucks. The initiative has seen participation from e-FAST India knowledge partners, financial institutions as well as industry forums. 

The hackathon consists of two rounds. Round 1 involves teams submitting their initial business models addressing a specific barrier, backed by high-level strategy and research. In Round 2, shortlisted teams will present their detailed business models crafted with an implementation roadmap. In a bid to ensure that the solutions are practical and impactful, industry leaders will mentor the proposals.
