Towards transformational leadership

IIMB's Advanced Management Program amplifies leadership impact, say 34 participants, on the eve of valedictory of the 8th batch
"The consensus realization is that, in the 15 to 20 years that we have been busy at organizations, management thought has evolved to an extent that only a structured classroom course would bring us up to speed, and mere airport readings of popular paperbacks would not do," declares Shirish Patil, Consultant Partner, Wipro Technologies.
The year-long Advanced Management Program (AMP) at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), the valedictory of which will be held tomorrow (December 13), has helped participants address the question: 'Why a management program after years of corporate life?'
The AMP focuses on strategy and leadership in the global context and includes an international immersion at ESADE Business School, Barcelona, Spain, with multiple industry visits. IIMB's world-class faculty, the real-time context that goes beyond historical case studies to explore conditions that can affect business today and into the future, the guided practice and the intimate group size are seen as unique features of the program.
"The AMP gave me insights into the entire spectrum of business management from Strategy to Operations and Economics to Human Resources without losing sight of ethics and human values," says Adilatchoumy Sankar, General Manager, Schneider-Electric IT Business India Pvt Ltd.
This year, as many as 34 business leaders with industry experience of more than 12 years signed up for the AMP to learn principles and practices that elevate them from functional management roles to senior general management roles. They include senior leaders from HR, Finance, Sales & Marketing, Operations and CXOs, VPs, GMs and Senior Managers from IT/ITES, Telecom, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Automotive, Banking & Finance and FMCG sectors.
"We are taught to comprehend the business ecosystem and its nuances. The focus is on personal mastery via self-understanding; and honing personal and emotional resilience. The learning is sure to help us assume change management roles at the leadership level," explains Kamal Jain, Program Manager, Tech Mahindra Limited.
Sirisha Mantrala, Senior Project Manager, Scope International Pvt. Ltd., Chennai (a wholly owned subsidiary of Standard Chartered Bank, UK), says the AMP helped her experience what it is to refresh, realise and reinvent herself as a leader. "The AMP gave me the entire universe - the Earth (functional management), Water (strategy), Fire (leadership, new and greater prospects), Wind (consciousness of self and social enrichment) and Sky (globalization)," she adds.
