‘EQ, not IQ, matters in the Corporate world’

IIMB alumnus and ICICI Lombard MD & CEO Bhargav Dasgupta exhorts PGP 2014-16 batch to embark on new journey of learning sans ego
Wise and witty - that best describes ICICI Managing Director and CEO Bhargav Dasgupta's address to the 406 young people who embarked on the two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management journey at IIM Bangalore on Monday (June 16).
Urging the sharp young minds - led by CAT Topper Abhiram Iyer - to engage fruitfully with his alma mater (Mr Dasgupta is an alumnus of IIMB PGP'92), he made a quick trip down memory lane to share 5 precious lessons. "You are the best of the best yet you must learn to set aside ego because ego is inversely proportional to success; develop a learning mindset; work on your EQ because EQ, not IQ, matters in the corporate world; be resilient because failure teaches you much more than success; pay attention to Organizational Behaviour lessons because it's not just domain excellence in Finance or Marketing but OB that will hold you in good stead when you lead teams; forge firm friendships here because it's friends who will come to your rescue in times of crises." Little wonder then that his young audience cheered him loud and long even as proud parents and faculty members beamed in agreement.
Mr Dasgupta went on to laud the lofty academic credentials of IIM Bangalore, paying a special tribute to its Marketing faculty who drilled it into him that 'Customer is king'. "That's a mantra that you will do well never to forget," he emphasized.
Mr Dasgupta also gave away the Siddhartha Padam Award to Rohit Rajgarhia (PGP 2013-15).
