Third batch of the Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management inaugurated

The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) welcomed the third batch of the one-year full-time Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP 2011-12) at a function held on April 7, 2011. Designed for mid-career professionals, this programme, inaugurated in 2009, is one of the long-duration programmes offered by IIMB, and significantly enhances the range of educational opportunities at the Institute.
The keynote address was delivered by Mrs Sudha Murthy, Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation. Her talk was illustrative and anecdotal, stressing the importance of maintaining a balance between professional success and human values. The key takeaway was the need for compassion for one's fellow human beings.
In his welcome address to the incoming batch of students, Professor Pankaj Chandra, Director IIMB invited the students to participate in all the activities of the Institute. "Not a day goes by without some event taking place on campus, be it a workshop, a seminar, a research presentation. All these are learning opportunities covering the entire spectrum of management disciplines and contemporary themes and issues," Professor Chandra said. Most of all, this one-year break from professional routines offered a chance for self-renewal and self-discovery, and students should make the most of this sabbatical.
Professor L Prasad, Chairperson EPGP said, "The EPGP programme has evolved over the past two years. We now have a sharper focus on orientation and induction, encouraging students to engage with each other. Given the rich and diverse work experience of the participants, experience-sharing is one of the highlights of this programme, with each batch offering unique learning contexts."
Professor Trilochan Sastry, Dean, Academic gave the vote of thanks at the inauguration event. He added his words of welcome to the third batch of EPGP students and encouraged them to make full use of all the resources available at the Institute.
The Seminar Series, anchored by experts and practitioners in the fields of liberal arts, sociology and environment has proved to be highly beneficial, and continue to form a significant component of the learning and pedagogy of the EPGP course.
Students of EPGP have access to all the resources at IIMB, including being able to choose electives and attend classes being held for other programmes offered by the Institute, such as the two year PGP, the PGSEM and PGPPM, each with special topics of study.
The 3rd batch of the EPGP comprises 62 students, with an average of 9.5 years of work experience. Other aspects of the batch profile include: an average GMAT score of 700; largely engineering background; diverse work experience including general management, product/project management, consultancy, operations management, research & development and entrepreneurship. Exposure to Industry sectors includes IT Services/Consulting, IT Product Development, Telecom, Semiconductors, Banking & Financial Services, Manufacturing/Metallurgy, and Energy. More than half the batch has international work experience of over three years.
