June 28, 2015: Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and the Academy of International Business (AIB) is hosting the 56th Annual AIB Conference with 121 paper sessions, 6 special sessions and 33 panels across 15 tracks in Bengaluru. At the opening plenary session of the conference, Dr. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairman & MD, Biocon (India), was awarded the 2015 AIB Fellows Executive of the Year Award by Sri Zaheer, Dean, Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. During the conference many practitioners and scholars were awarded for their contribution to their respective fields.
Themed ‘Global Networks: Organizations and People’, the AIB Annual Global Conference 2015 focuses on responding to three megatrends—the rise of trade in activities, knowledge-intensive intangibles and emerging markets. The prestigious conference that comes to India for the first time ever, brings practitioners and scholars from 62 countries together.
On winning the prestigious award, Dr. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairman & MD, Biocon (India), said, “I am deeply honoured and privileged to receive this prestigious award from AIB. Delivering the keynote at the opening plenary session, she said, “Information Technology, Communication Technology and Biotechnology are rapidly and disruptively changing the way we communicate, educate, medicate and eradicate. To me perhaps the most transformational power of technology is that of entrepreneurship. Technology is unleashing innovation to entrepreneurial zeal like never before. Value creation is no longer linked to scale but to the power of Idea. These technology led entrepreneurs are all focused on break through ideas. This has created start-up revolution the world over. Bengaluru today is the start-up capital of India and accounts for nearly 30% of the country’s start-up. It is forecasted that Bengaluru will soon join the ranks of Silicon Valley and Boston to be amongst the world’s leading entrepreneurial systems”.
“The future belongs to those country and companies that can unleash the power of cross border collaboration, invest in innovations and most of all embrace entrepreneurship as an economic model for growth”, she added.
AIB also announced a start of a new tradition this year by visiting a third sector, social organizations, to give the AIB members a chance to go beyond the walls of the conference venue and witness how innovative organizations are dealing with some of the challenges facing India.
