IIMB alumni are back at school; as part of a unique alumni relations strengthening initiative launched by the school, eight alumni with a keen interest in management education attend a five-day programme on campus

03 May, 2018, Bengaluru: Providing management education requires mastery of course design, class preparation and delivery, and creation of specific teaching aids. A unique programme, ‘Effective Teaching’, launched by IIM Bangalore’s Centre for Teaching and Learning, along with the school’s Alumni Relations Office, seeks to develop and enhance specific competencies required for management teaching among its alumni.

The first five-day programme, led by programme directors Prof. R Srinivasan and Vasanthi Srinivasan, was launched on April 30. The teaching faculty included Prof. Bringi Dev, Prof. Chetan Subramanian, Prof. Haritha Saranga, Prof. PD Jose, Prof. K Kumar, Prof. Mukta Kulkarni, and Prof. Sourav Mukherji, from IIMB.

The programme introduced the participants to the nuances of digital learning, including flipped classrooms and blended programmes.

“The Effective Teaching Programme helps develop a holistic insight on teaching as a role and profession. It assists in the transition from part-time to full-time teaching, and grooms the participants into becoming effective teachers,” said Prof. Vasanthi Srinivasan, one of the Programme Directors.

The programme used a variety of pedagogies, including the case method. It covered topics such as teaching as a role and as a process, course types and designs, class preparation and delivery, and case writing. The sessions included panel discussions on best practice sharing by IIMB faculty.

The programme, conducted at IIMB from April 30 to May 04, 2018, was targeted at alumni of IIMB who had graduated from any of the following programmes: Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP), Post Graduate Programme in Enterprise Management (PGPEM), Post Graduate Programme in Software Enterprise Management (PGSEM), Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) and Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM). Participants needed to have taken at least one full course at IIMB.
