Research & Publications Office to host research seminar on ‘The Role of Trust, Past Experience, Overconfidence, and Expectations in Future Cryptocurrency Holdings’ on 21st July

The talk will be delivered by Prof. Akanksha Jalan, Rennes School of Business, France

17 July, 2023, Bengaluru: The Office of Research and Publications (R&P) at IIM Bangalore will host a research seminar on ‘The Role of Trust, Past Experience, Overconfidence, and Expectations in Future Cryptocurrency Holdings’, to be led by Prof. Akanksha Jalan, Rennes School of Business, France (Finance & Accounting area), at 2.30 pm on 21st July 2023, at Classroom M-21.

Abstract: Using recent survey data, the researchers build on and confirm the findings of Jalan et al. (2023) on the positive impact of trust on crypto/NFT-savings and investments in Sweden, Denmark and Finland, suggesting that trust may mitigate the high perceived risk associated with cryptocurrencies. They also find no dampening effect of negative ethical perceptions on crypto investments, highlighting the potential role of interpersonal trust in mitigating ethical concerns. Moreover, the researchers analyze the effects of past experience, overconfidence and expectations on the future of cryptocurrencies. They document that negative past experience and overconfidence positively affects the odds of having cryptocurrency in the future.

Speaker Profile: Prof. Akanksha Jalan is faculty of Accounting and Finance at the Rennes School of Business, France. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and obtained her FPM in Finance and Control at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. Her research interests lie in cryptocurrency markets, corporate governance and gender diversity. Her research has been published in journals such as Economics Letters, The European Journal of Finance, International Review of Financial Analysis, Finance Research Letters, Applied Economics, and Revue économique, among others.
