President of India to release film on IIMB on October 26 to mark the Institute’s Golden Jubilee Year
Documenting the IIMB journey from its inception to the present, the film will portray the challenges and triumphs, the accomplishments, and the future directions of the institute through the voices of its many stakeholders past and present
07 OCTOBER, 2023: As the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) celebrates its Golden Jubilee this year, one of the projects envisaged to mark the milestone is a film on IIMB, documenting the IIMB journey from its inception to the present.
Formally inaugurated by the Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi on 28th October, 1973, IIMB began its journey from rented premises on Langford Road in Bangalore; it is now housed in a verdant, 100-acre campus on Bannerghatta Road, initially designed by the Pritzker Prize winning architect Dr. B V Doshi.
From a first PGP batch of around 50 students, IIMB now has 1,200 students across various degree-granting programmes and 5,000 annual Executive Education participants. Delivering a range of cutting-edge programmes and courses are 150 eminent faculty, and IIMB boasts of over 25,000 alumni who occupy positions of global leadership.
Since its founding, IIMB has been resolute in fostering academic excellence while being responsive to the environment in terms of the requirements of business, government, and society. The institute remains focused on providing an exceptional learning experience and preparing its students for successful careers in a globally competitive landscape.
Today, recognition for IIMB’s accomplishments, stature, and leadership standing have come from national and globally accredited quarters. IIMB is featured in the FT and QS rankings among the first two schools in India and among the leading B Schools globally.
IIMB owes its accomplishments, its success and the accolades to the many stakeholders who have been with the Institute throughout its journey: the Government of India, the Government of Karnataka, the governing board of the institution, the committed faculty, staff, and multiple generations of students, including the alumni who have been a pillar of support throughout the institute’s history.
The Golden Jubilee year is the appropriate juncture to look back and take stock of our accomplishments, thank all the stakeholders for their varied contributions, and to envision the road ahead. The IIMB Film has been conceived in that spirit and captures the arc of the institute’s journey towards excellence. The IIMB film in the main will portray the challenges and triumphs, the accomplishments, and the future directions of the institute through the voices of its many stakeholders past and present – the directors, members of the board, faculty, alumni, and administrative staff who have been part of the 50-year journey. Also on the anvil are films that capture the deep IIMB alumni connect, the academic growth of the institute, and glimpses from student life at IIMB.
