Research & Publications Office to host seminar on ‘Trade with whom you know: Firm-to-firm trade and social network’ on 21 August
The talk will be delivered by Prof. Barthelemy Bonadio, NYU Abu Dhabi
20 August, 2024, Bengaluru: The Office of Research and Publications (R&P) at IIM Bangalore will host a research seminar on, ‘Trade with whom you know: Firm-to-firm trade and social network’, to be led by Prof. Barthelemy Bonadio, NYU Abu Dhabi (Economics area), at 4 pm on 21 August 2024, at Classroom P-11.
Abstract: The researchers merge data on firm-to-firm trade with biographical data of senior executives. Using a mover's event study design, they find that two firms are more likely to trade if two of their senior managers have worked together in the past. It is confirmed that the effect survives when using exogenous variation in social connections from death of senior executives.
Speaker Profile: Dr. Barthelemy Bonadio is an Assistant Professor of Economics at NYU Abu Dhabi and CESifo Research Affiliate. He was previously a Postdoctoral Fellow at HEC Lausanne. He obtained his PhD in Economics at the University of Michigan. His key research interest is in International Economics. He has publications in reputed journals, such as, Journal of International Economics, Journal of the European Economic Association, IMF Economic Review, etc.
