IIM Bangalore to host 50th Convocation on 28 March

Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Professor and Former Chairman, ISRO, Dr. S. Somanath, will be the Chief Guest and deliver the Convocation address
5 February, 2025, Bengaluru: Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM Bangalore) will host its 50th Convocation on 28 March 2025. Dr. S. Somanath, Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Professor and Former Chairman, ISRO, will be the Chief Guest on the occasion and deliver the Convocation address.
Degrees will be awarded to the students of the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme and the MBA programmes – the Post Graduate Programme in Enterprise Management (PGPEM), Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP), Post Graduate Programme in Business Analytics (PGPBA) and Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP). Students of the Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM) will receive the Master of Management Studies (Public Policy) degree, while some will receive the Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and Management. Three PhD scholars will be given awards for excellence in research, while the remaining MBA students will receive gold medals for Best All Round Performance, First Rank and Second Rank, which will be handed over by the Chief Guest.
During the ceremony, Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Chairperson, Board of Governors, IIMB, will share his message. Professor Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director, IIMB, will highlight some of the achievements and accomplishments of the Institute. Videos on ‘Life at IIMB’ will also be played.

About the speaker: Dr. S. Somanath is the Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Professor and Former Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and IIT Madras.
As Chairman of ISRO, Dr. Somanath had piloted the Indian Space Policy, facilitated IN-SPACe activation, engagement of ISRO with NGPEs and start-ups in space sector and enabled NSIL to aggregate user demands, take up commercial activities including Launch Vehicle production and spacecraft operations. Chandrayaan-3 landing near the south pole of the moon was a great success under his leadership. The Aditya-L1, XPoSat, INSAT-3DS, NVS-01, Oceansat, GSAT-24 and commercial PSLV and LVM3-OneWeb missions are some of the recent successes.
Under Dr. Somanath’s leadership, Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) and Test Vehicle (TV) were developed and landing experiments of the Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV-LEX) were accomplished. He played a crucial role in the architecture of the Gaganyaan program for sending Indians to space and achieved the first Test Vehicle flight for mission abort demonstration. He was instrumental in developing the Space Vision 2047, where Gaganyaan, Chandrayaan series and other exploration missions, Bharatiya Antariksha Station development and human mission to Moon, were approved.
Dr. Somanath played a key role in the success of the Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) mission, which had a successful outcome.
