NSRCEL’s approach to entrepreneurship is highly integrative, attempting to create a close connection between the theory and practice of entrepreneurship. NSRCEL supports academic research to promote a better understanding of the entrepreneurial context and entrepreneurial strategies in the Indian context. The centre also supports development of cases based on entrepreneurial ventures in India.
NSRCEL is one of the few entrepreneurship centres which has its own faculty members focused exclusively on teaching and research relating to entrepreneurship. NSRCEL’s faculty members collaborate extensively with counterparts elsewhere in the world and are among the most research active faculty in entrepreneurship in the country.
In addition to offering courses on entrepreneurship in the long duration programmes at IIM Bangalore, the faculty members run two specialized programmes for entrepreneurs – Management Programme for Entrepreneurs and Family Businesses (MPEFB) and Management Programme for Women Entrepreneurs (MPWE).
The five focus areas are:
Teaching and Training
NSRCEL runs two programmes for entrepreneurs. The first, Management Programme for Entrepreneurs and Family Businesses (MPEFB), is targeted at first-generation entrepreneurs as well as family businesses. It is an intensive, eight-month programme which imparts contemporary knowledge in various functional areas. The second, Management Programme for Women Entrepreneurs (MPWE), helps early-stage enterprises started by women who feel the need for capacity-building.
Research
NSRCEL supports academic research projects by faculty at the Centre as well as at IIMB, with the aim of better understanding the entrepreneurial context in India and the strategies that are likely to succeed here. Many projects are in collaboration with academics in leading universities across the world. The Center also supports development of cases based on entrepreneurial ventures in India.
Incubation
At the heart of NSRCEL’s developmental activities is an incubation center which supports any venture as long as it is innovative, has the potential to make a social and/or financial impact and the team has the capability to implement it. It offers access to high-quality infrastructure and a vibrant community of successful entrepreneurs, investors and corporate managers who visit the Center. Founders of enterprises who apply to the incubation programme do not need prior affiliation with IIMB.
Mentoring
NSRCEL has a structured mentoring process where a team of experienced mentors offer their expertise (mentoring/ expert advice) to both current and prospective entrepreneurs. Anyone requesting mentoring is matched with a mentor, depending on the area of interest. Hundreds of entrepreneurs have benefitted from NSRCEL’s mentoring activities in the past few years.
Events and Ecosystem Activities
NSRCEL organizes over 20 events a year, all with the object of promoting entrepreneurship. It aims to build a thriving ecosystem and be a platform where new ideas are created. The Centre’s flagship event, 4Startups
www.4startups.in, is held on the first Saturday of every month and provides insights into different facets of entrepreneurship. The half-day workshop focuses on doubts and numerous pain points that entrepreneurs face. * subject to conditions
