IIM Bangalore was designed by Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi (6 August 1927 – 24 January 2023), who was an awardee of Pritzker Prize and Padma Bhushan. The government of Karnataka had offered 100 acres of land on Bannerghatta Road for campus building, during 1970s'-80s' this part of the city was considered as an outskirt. It was a barren land then, and over the years became a lush green campus with the practices of self-sustainability. The campus was made from local granite stone, design of the corridors was inspired by Fatehpur Sikri near Agra and Madurai Temple in Tamil Nadu and Pergolas were the main attraction.
"Sky should be visible from every corner of the campus!" was the thought Mr. BV Doshi had in his mind while designing IIM Bangalore's Campus
Greek Politician Pericles had rightly said, "What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others." The 40-Year-old Bannerghatta Campus of IIM Bangalore has witnessed numerous emotions. Adoration, Struggle, Happiness, Sorrows, and Joy are a few to be named but Gratitude is the most common emotion felt for this place by its community.
