The Making of a Campus: IIM Bangalore

“The Making of a Campus: IIM Bangalore”, authored by Dr. Kiran Keswani, was released during the Golden Jubilee Foundation Week celebrations of the Institute, on 26^th October 2023. The events were inaugurated by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu along with the Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot, who released the book.

The book tells the story of the architecture of IIM Bangalore and of the people who have inhabited its ‘spaces’ and made it into the ‘place’ that it is. It shares how the campus came into being and how it has been experienced over time. The book traces the design and planning efforts of the architects Balkrishna Doshi, Achyut Kanvinde and Sanjay Mohe towards the making of the campus. It also includes narratives built from talking to faculty, students, alumni and staff.

The book is designed as a visual commentary on the architecture of the IIMB campus and is illustrated with colour photographs. It would be of interest for those who have been a part of its growth as well as the architectural community which admires the campus immensely for its creativity.

As the author, Kiran Keswani puts it, “The book shares how this campus with its buildings and landscape continues to ‘celebrate life’ as architect Balkrishna Doshi always wanted it to.”
