The Evolution of IIMB: Directors’ Perspectives

A compendium of interviews with the former Directors of IIM Bangalore, the book, “The Evolution of IIMB: Directors’ Perspectives” was launched by Dr. Balkrishna Doshi, Pritzker Laureate, on 28^th October 2019 when IIMB celebrated its 46th Foundation Day. The book contains reflections of the former directors of the institute: Professors J. Philip, K.R.S Murthy, M.R. Rao, Prakash Apte and Sushil Vachani. The book also contains an essay by the first Director, Professor N. S. Ramaswamy, entitled “IIMB – Contributions and Achievements: The First 10 Years”, which was first published in 1999 in the volume of essays commemorating the Silver Jubilee of the institute. The volume was titled “Management Perspectives: Essays on Managerial Priorities and Management Education”.

“The Evolution of IIMB: Directors’ Perspectives” had its beginnings in the panel discussion on "Building the IIMB Institution -- A Directors' Perspective" held on October 27^th, 2017, as part of the 44th Foundation Day celebrations, in which the former directors of IIMB, Professors K.R.S. Murthy, M.R. Rao, Prakash Apte and Sushil Vachani participated, sharing their perspectives on the building of IIMB. Over the course of 2017 - 2018, the History Project followed up with videographed interviews with the directors on the panel, as also former director, Professor J Philip. These interviews were transcribed and edited and supported with the necessary archival references, before being cleared by the interviewees. The final compendium titled “The Evolution of IIMB: Directors’ Perspectives”, was published by IIM Bangalore in 2019.
