About Mizuho India Japan Study Centre at IIMB

The Mizuho India Japan Study Centre (MIJSC) at IIM Bangalore promotes India-Japan collaboration, focusing on strengthening economic, cultural, and strategic ties between India and Japan. The Centre is currently chaired by a career diplomat who has held top leadership positions and is operationally headed by an Industry veteran.

With over six decades of cooperation, India and Japan share a robust partnership that has grown through Japan’s “Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy” and India’s “Act East” policy.  As the economic partnership continues to expand, MIJSC aims to deepen academic and business engagement between the two nations. Key sectors of focus include infrastructure, energy, MSMEs, technology transfer, and sustainable development. The Centre’s mission is to foster mutual understanding and build expertise in areas such as manufacturing, corporate governance, start-ups, innovation, and language and cultural exchange, addressing the unique dynamics of India-Japan business relations.

MIJSC drives collaborative research, conducts executive training programs, facilitates student and faculty exchange programs with prominent Japanese universities.  MIJSC also offers IIMB students a unique opportunity to engage with Japanese business practices. The Centre serves as a hub for knowledge-sharing, preparing students, researchers, and business leaders for a dynamic future in India-Japan relations.

Role

MIJSC plays a vital role in bridging academic and business interactions between India and Japan, with a focus on fostering sustainable partnerships across various domains. The Centre works to:

  • Advance Collaborative Research: MIJSC facilitates joint studies and projects with Japanese universities, industry experts, and policymakers, focusing on areas such as innovation, sustainability, and technology transfer.
  • Support Academic and Cultural Exchanges: By offering programs like student exchanges, Japanese language courses, and executive training, MIJSC strengthens cultural understanding and prepares professionals for success in India-Japan business environments.
  • Disseminate Research Outcomes: Through publications, seminars, and events, MIJSC shares insights on relevant India-Japan business topics, helping to inform policy and business strategies.
  • Engage with Industry and Government: The Centre collaborates with industry leaders and government bodies to address mutual business interests and opportunities, particularly in infrastructure, energy, and SME sectors.

Through these efforts, MIJSC at IIM Bangalore aims to be a catalyst for enduring India-Japan collaboration, driving both countries towards shared growth and innovation.
