Welcome to the Japanese Language Conversation and Culture (JLCC) Program!
Dive into a vibrant learning experience with the JLCC Program, where language learning meets cultural immersion. Our inaugural Cohort 1 welcomed 67 enthusiastic participants from diverse backgrounds, united by a shared passion for Japanese language and culture.
As a part of the program, three vibrant workshops were held in March, June, and October, each offering a blend of learning, practice, and interaction:
- Language Labs: Employing the engaging World Café methodology, these sessions enhanced grammar understanding and vocabulary building through collaborative exercises. By the final workshop, participants confidently delivered 90-second presentations in Japanese, showcasing their remarkable progress.
- Cultural Exploration: Learners immersed themselves in Japanese traditions through hands-on experiences like Ikebana (flower arranging), Origami, mastering chopstick etiquette, and learning the art of exchanging business cards—a critical skill in Japanese business culture.
Fostering Community and Support
The JLCC Program wasn’t just about learning; it was about creating a community:
- Buddy System: Each learner had a dedicated support network to ensure everyone stayed on track, fostering an environment of inclusivity and teamwork.
- Collaborative Learning: Peer mentor-led activities brought participants together, enabling them to learn from and support one another.
