From November 4th to 8th, 2024, the Mizuho India Japan Study Centre (MIJSC) at IIM Bangalore hosted students from Meiji University, Japan, for a one-week immersive learning experience. The program combined academic lectures, business visits, hands-on workshops, and cultural exploration, fostering cross-cultural understanding and experiential learning.
Program Highlights
Day 1 (Nov 4) – Cross-Cultural Learning & Observation Skills
The program started with an Orientation Session led by Mr. Saideep Rathnam, followed by a lecture on Cross-Cultural Communication by Dr. Srivani M, Managing Director of IIMB Management Review. Dr. Aditya Gupta is the Chief Operations Officer at the Supply Chain Management Centre who then introduced the students to Supply Chain Management in India.
Post-lunch, students participated in observation exercises. They applied their learning at MAK Foods Supermarket, evaluating customer service and India’s digital payment system (UPI). The day concluded with label writing and scrubbing exercises to enhance attention to detail.
Day 2 (Nov 5) – Applied Observation & Business Case Studies
Students reviewed their previous day’s observations before heading to the campus canteen to assess safety and cleanliness. They later developed a visual roadmap for improvements. The day ended with networking over dinner at MDC.
Day 3 (Nov 6) – Startups & Business Insights
The day began with a visit to NSRCEL, IIMB’s startup incubator, where students learned about India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. They later visited GIEOM Business Solutions Pvt. Ltd., where Founder & CEO John Santhosh shared insights on business resilience during the pandemic and product innovation in banking operations.
Day 4 (Nov 7) – Rural Entrepreneurship & Manufacturing
Students participated in a Craftsmanship Workshop by Tamaala Art Merchandise, a social enterprise promoting rural and tribal artisans. They explored sustainable manufacturing, cultural preservation, and livelihood generation.
In the afternoon, they visited Sansera Engineering Limited’s Aerospace Division, where they observed high-precision manufacturing processes and quality control.
Day 5 (Nov 8) – Cultural & Architectural Insights
A field trip to Belur and Halebidu introduced students to India’s rich heritage and temple architecture. They analyzed intricate sculptures and derived management lessons from precision craftsmanship and long-term planning.
